Kitsap's Growth Over the Years

It’s no secret that Washington has seen steady population growth. A healthy job market, booming economy, and fantastic scenery make our state an appealing option for those seeking a new place to call home.

The result of this population increase has led to steeper prices in metro areas like Seattle where the median home price is now $729,381. And while Seattle is still one of the fastest-growing large cities in the nation, people who work downtown are opting for commutes and affordable housing over downtown living.

Last year, Kitsap’s population hit more than 270,000 people for the first time with about 19,000 residents having been added over the past 10 years. This marks a 7.6% increase for the decade, confirming trends of our rapidly expanding Puget Sound region.

“The whole Puget Sound region has been growing so (Kitsap County’s) very similar in that respect,” said Mike Mohrman, a state demographer for the Washington State Office of Financial Management. In the past 10 years, Kitsap became one of the top places for people exiting King County. The county now ranks as the fourth highest destination for former King residents.

What will Kitsap’s population growth look like in the next 10 years? How fast will growth continue? Forecast experts expect a continued boom in population at an even faster rate than the 2010s.

Washington State Office of Financial Management growth management projections show Kitsap adding more than 27,000 people by 2030. This would result in a 10% growth in just 10 years.

The Puget Sound Regional Council believes this growth will be even steeper, predicting Kitsap will add more than 42,000 people by 2030. This would put Kitsap with a population that surpasses 310,000 in the next decade.

Either way, there’s little expectation Kitsap’s growing population will come to a stop in the years to come.

For those considering a move to Kitsap County, Bainbridge Island is a fantastic option. Just a short ferry ride from Downtown Seattle, you’re somehow worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s plenty of options for housing to fit your needs.

One of the most recent projects, is a new home community by Millennial Builders, The Reserve at Winslow.

The Reserve features 12 new, custom homes on large homesites with an easy 30 minute commute to downtown Seattle. Each home has a unique exterior and floor plan. These stunning, modern-farmhouse style homes are light filled and feature open vistas, high ceilings, and covered outdoor spaces.  They all offer open concept living spaces with custom finishes and high-tech upgrades and kitchen’s that are a chef’s delight, including Thermador® appliances and quartz counter tops.
